Member Story: Katie from Connecticut

Meet Katie, one of our UpChoose moms from Connecticut. She's a behavior analyst and mama to Nora Jane, an adorable two years old girl. She joined UpChoose just before Nora Jane was born. You can find her on Instagram @littleladystakey

Nora Jane, 2 years old.

Data from the various industries that I am now a part of after having a child. The amount of waste is unnecessary.

Buying secondhand everything where I can. There is no reason to buy a brand new high chair when someone else is done using theirs.

What are some benefits you have seen over time, are there things that worked well for you?

I barely ever buy clothes for my daughter. 90% of her clothes are hand-me-downs or from UpChoose.

Any tips you'd like to share with other expecting parents who just heard about these issues and trying to figure out their first steps?

Having a child is extremely expensive. The various industries that you need to buy from are in a cycle of mass production when most of it can be thrifted. If there is no demand then they will have to slow down supply!

Can you tell us a bit about the set(s) you received from UpChoose? What did you pick and how have you used the platform so far? 

I decided that I only needed the basic set. We had enough hand-me-downs so I didn’t need too much. My daughter is very small so I loved the option of being able to adjust when your next set comes. She is 23 months and still fits in a lot of 12-18. We have had our current set for quite a while. The process could not be any easier. I absolutely love the reusable packaging!

Do you already have a favorite outfit or item from your UpChoose set? 

I loved the bodysuits- they are so versatile. My daughter wore them as pajamas and day outfits!

What’s most exciting to you about being part of the UpChoose community and what are the most important things we can help you achieve? 

Being a part of a company that is actively at the forefront of changing the factors that are hurting our environment.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

I would love to be able to control my energy level. As a momma and full-time behavior analyst, I find myself constantly wishing I didn’t need to rely on coffee to get me through the day!
 

Favorite activities or games you play with the kid(s)?

Music! My daughter loves singing and dancing.

Favorite movie? 

A classic childhood favorite: the parent trap (remake)
 

Dream place for a vacation?

Joshua tree National park or France!
 

Favorite dish?

This vegan bolognese dish I had at a recent friend's wedding.
